Why explore Luxembourg City with a city game
Luxembourg City grew around a mighty fortress on a rocky plateau above the Alzette and Pétrusse valleys, and its old quarters and fortifications are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Bock Casemates are tunnels carved into the rock, the Grand Ducal Palace is the Grand Duke’s official town residence, and St Michael’s Church stands on the city’s oldest religious site.
A game makes you look closely at statues, inscriptions and façade details you would otherwise pass by, and the stories that follow explain what you have just seen. Everyone plays on their own phone, there is no schedule, and you can stop at a café on Place d’Armes whenever you like.
- Start in the morning or late afternoon, when the light over the valleys is softer and the squares are calmer.
- Start the escape game in daylight; its puzzles rely on details on the outside of the buildings.
- Bring a charged phone, a power bank and comfortable shoes for the cobbles and ramparts.
- After the game, go down to the Grund by the Alzette, or visit the Bock Casemates inside.
