The route: from City Hall to the Gilded Crown
The Stockholm scavenger hunt starts at City Hall on Kungsholmen and continues to Normalhöjdpunkten and Riddarholm Church. The 10 stops cover about 3.1 km, roughly 40 minutes of walking. Start anywhere or change the order in the app; Google Maps guides you. No entry tickets needed: every riddle uses the outside of the buildings.

Why explore Stockholm with a city game
Stockholm is spread across islands where Lake Mälaren meets the Baltic, and this route hops between several of them. City Hall hosts the Nobel banquet, Riddarholm Church is the burial church of Swedish monarchs, and the medieval lanes of Gamla Stan lead to Stortorget, scene of the Stockholm Bloodbath of 1520, and to the Royal Palace, the king’s official residence.
A game makes you look closely at carvings, signs and façades you would otherwise pass by, and the stories that follow explain what you just saw. Everyone plays on their own phone, there is no schedule, and you can stop for a coffee or a snack whenever you like.
- Start in the morning or late afternoon; Gamla Stan’s lanes are busiest at midday, and in winter daylight fades early.
- Start the escape game in daylight; its puzzles rely on details on the façades.
- Pack a power bank and wear comfortable shoes; the game runs on your phone.
- Plan your route past the Royal Palace to catch the changing of the guard, or stop for a fika in a Gamla Stan café.
