The Cambridge City Guides deal with what every visitor wonders: which colleges are worth a ticket, where to eat well away from the overpriced streets, when to hear King’s College Choir for free and which pubs locals actually drink in. Each guide is a short, opinionated list giving the reason to go, what to order or look for and one practical tip per place, and it opens in your browser the moment you pay.

Free museums where children can get hands-on, big parks, swimming pools, farm animals and aircraft hangars for a big day out, and food that keeps young eaters happy.
Nightlife guide
24 places

Three places from the guides
Aromi Caffe and Pizzeria
Bene’t Street
A Sicilian bakery turning out thick, airy focaccia-style pizza from a stone oven, sold by the slice or to take away, with caponata and arancini you will not find anywhere else in town. A cheap lunch two minutes from King’s Parade. From the food guide.
Wren Library
Trinity College, Trinity Street
Christopher Wren’s library at Trinity opens free of charge for two hours at weekday lunchtimes. Inside are Newton’s own annotated copy of the Principia, a Shakespeare First Folio and the Winnie-the-Pooh manuscripts. Only about 15 visitors go in at once. From the things to do guide.
Ely Cathedral
Ely, 15 minutes by train
The great cathedral that towers over the flat fens, crowned by an octagonal lantern found nowhere else. The extra Octagon Tower tour earns its price, and the train from Cambridge takes only a quarter of an hour. From the countryside and day trips guide.
Finish the game, open the guide
World City Trail’s Cambridge scavenger hunt, escape game and audio tour lead you through the historic centre. Afterwards the guides carry on: a pint in a back-street pub, a free museum before closing time, a walk across the meadows to Grantchester or a short train ride to Ely.
