What is the Nice outdoor escape game?
The Nice outdoor escape game takes an escape room out into the old town and down toward the sea: you play on your phone, and at each of the 10 landmarks a puzzle asks you to watch closely and reason your way to the answer. Allow about 2 hours, of which roughly 35 minutes is walking over 2.6 km, and begin on whatever day suits you.
Each puzzle belongs to a place, such as the Cathédrale Sainte-Réparate, the Cours Saleya or the Fontaine du Soleil, and the puzzles are independent of one another, so no storyline ties them together. Stuck? Stuck on a riddle? Open the first hint, then a second, and a third if you still need it. Nice suits this format well: the narrow lanes of the old town and a short, flat route make the walk between puzzles easy.

The first puzzle waits on Place Garibaldi and the last one in the Jardin Albert-Ier, with eight landmarks in between: Tour Saint-François, Chapelle de la Visitation, Cathédrale Sainte-Réparate, Cours Saleya, Opéra de Nice, Promenade du Paillon, Fontaine du Soleil and Monument du Centenaire. Start in daylight and check the weather, because rain or wind slow down a game played outdoors. Google Maps handles the navigation between stops, and the puzzles need no entry tickets.

1Place GaribaldiStart
This large square on the edge of the old town is lined with arcades and ochre and yellow façades in the Piedmontese style of the 18th century. It is named after Giuseppe Garibaldi, the hero of Italian unification, who was born in Nice in 1807, and his statue stands in the middle.
2Tour Saint-François
This tall bell tower in the old town once belonged to a Franciscan monastery. It rises above the narrow lanes near Place Saint-François, where a fish market is traditionally held in the mornings.
3Chapelle de la Visitation
On the quiet Place Sainte-Claire, at the foot of Castle Hill, stands the chapel of a former convent of the Visitation nuns. Its baroque church is one of several religious buildings that give the upper part of the old town its calm, almost village-like feel.
4Cathédrale Sainte-Réparate
Nice Cathedral on Place Rossetti was built in the baroque style in the 17th century and is known for its dome covered in glazed coloured tiles. It is dedicated to Saint Reparata, a young martyr whose body, according to legend, was carried by angels in a boat to the bay that is now called the Baie des Anges.
5Cours Saleya
This long pedestrian promenade between the old town and the sea is the setting of Nice's flower and produce market. The painter Henri Matisse lived for many years in the tall yellow building at its eastern end, on Place Charles-Félix.
6Opéra de Nice
Nice's opera house stands between the old town and the seafront on the site of an earlier theatre that was destroyed by a deadly fire in 1881. The present building opened in 1885, and its main façade with its ornate decoration faces the old town.
7Promenade du Paillon
This long park opened in 2013 on the course of the Paillon river, which had been covered over in stages since the 19th century. Its water mirror with fountains and mist jets is a favourite place to cool off in summer.
8Fontaine du Soleil
The Fountain of the Sun on Place Masséna was created by the sculptor Alfred Janniot in 1956. A tall marble statue of Apollo stands at its centre, surrounded by bronze figures representing planets, while the square around it is framed by red façades and arcades.
9Monument du Centenaire
This monument in the Jardin Albert-Ier was inaugurated in 1896 to mark the centenary of Nice's first union with France in the 1790s. It stands among the palms of the garden, a few steps from the sea, and its sculpted figures are worth a close look.
10Jardin Albert-IerFinish
These palm-lined gardens run from Place Masséna down to the Promenade des Anglais. They are named after King Albert I of Belgium, and a large steel arc by the artist Bernar Venet stands near the seafront.

Det var en fin gåtur rundt i byen og gøy å løse oppgaver. Kjedelig med avstengte områder rundt et par av oppgavene pga renovering. Ble vanskelig å løse oppgavene da. Ulik vanskelighetsgrad på oppgavene gjorde det mer spennende. Anbefales å prøve hvis du har tid til overs.
