What is the Nice self-guided walking tour?
The Nice self-guided walking tour is a walk you take at your own speed, with audio narration on your phone doing the job a guide would do. Allow about 3 hours: 35 minutes of that is spent walking, the route covers 2.6 km, and at each of the 10 stops you pause to listen. There is no start time to keep and no group to wait for.
On Place Garibaldi the narration starts with Giuseppe Garibaldi, born in Nice in 1807, and at the cathedral it tells the legend of Saint Reparata, whose body angels are said to have carried in a boat to the bay now called the Baie des Anges. On the Cours Saleya you hear that Henri Matisse lived for years in the tall yellow building at its eastern end. Place Masséna follows, with Alfred Janniot's marble Apollo of 1956 rising from the Fontaine du Soleil.

Good to know

- Family friendly; children must be accompanied by an adult.
- Not suitable for wheelchair users and difficult with strollers.

Ideal for introverted solo travellers who want to learn about some of the main sights without interacting with others. Pretty good value for the price but the app uses Google Maps which isn’t always reliable, especially on the smaller narrow streets in the old town

Also der Weg bis zum Guide war furchtbar. Erst habe ich zwei Tickets gekauft, dann aber nur eins erhalten (eins zum Preis von zwei, super Angebot!?) dann hat der Zugangscode für die App nicht funktioniert, also musste ich mich mit beiden Kundenservices rumärgern… Der Guide an sich ist ganz schön, man sieht einige Sachen und kann sich kleine Texte dazu durchlesen. Orientieren muss man sich allerdings selbst, also es erfordert schon Motivation, sich von Punkt zu Punkt selbst zu navigieren und dann noch einen guten Blick auf die Sehenswürdigkeiten zu finden.
