The Pamukkale City Guides answer what every visitor here ends up asking: when to walk the white terraces before the tour coaches roll in, what else waits on the plateau besides the pools, where to eat Denizli’s pit-roasted lamb instead of a coach-stop buffet, and which Roman cities nearby deserve a whole day. Each guide is a short, honest list that tells you why a place is worth your time, what to order or look for and one practical tip, and it opens in your browser as soon as you have paid.

Three places from the guides
Kebapçı Rıdvan – Meşhur Denizli Kebabı
Saraylar, central Denizli, near Kaleiçi
They make one thing here: lamb from the pit oven, sliced as you order and laid on pide that has soaked up the roasting juices, with peppers and tomato. Eat it with your fingers, add cumin and chilli from the table, and you will see why so many locals rank it first. From the food guide.
Ploutonion
Between the Antique Pool and the theatre, Hierapolis
The ancients called it the Gate to Hades: a sacred cave whose carbon dioxide killed the animals priests led inside. Gas still bubbles from the vent, and the seating and statues of Pluto and Cerberus are there to see. Most people walk straight past, so give it five minutes. From the things to do guide.
Ancient Greco-Roman city of Aphrodisias
Geyre, near Karacasu, about 1 hr 45 min by car
The best full day out from Pamukkale: a city of marble carvers with a 270-metre stadium that held 30,000 people, the rebuilt Tetrapylon gate and the Sebasteion reliefs of emperors and gods in the museum. Entry is about €12 and crowds are rare. From the ruins and day trips guide.
Plan your days in Pamukkale
Day one: be at the South Gate when it opens at 08:00 and walk the terraces barefoot before the coaches arrive around 10:00. Cross Hierapolis to the Ploutonion, the museum and the Antique Pool, then climb to the hilltop church of Saint Philip. Save the late light for the necropolis or the park at the foot of the cliff, and end with a glass under the vines at Kayas Wine House. Day two: take the dolmuş to Denizli for a kebab lunch at Kebapçı Rıdvan, stop at Laodicea on the way back and finish in the red water of Karahayıt, or give the whole day to Aphrodisias. For a rainy or slow day, walk through Kaklık Cave, browse the Kaleiçi market and eat from the trays at Bereket Lokantası in Denizli.
