Yes, Rhodes is one of the easiest cruise stops for our treasure hunt. Ships normally berth at the Tourist Port quay at Kolona, right outside the Old Town walls, so there is no tender. The hunt starts at the d'Amboise Gate on the far side of the Old Town, about 20 minutes on foot from the quay. It takes about 2 hours and ends at the Marine Gate, a short walk from the ship, which leaves a comfortable margin.

Price range: 4.99 € through 19.99 €From the cruise quay to the d'Amboise Gate
- Walk off the ship and along the quay to the Old Town walls. The nearest gates, such as the Marine Gate, are about 5-10 minutes away.
- Inside the walls, head up the Street of the Knights (Ippoton), which climbs gently past the Palace of the Grand Master, to the d'Amboise Gate on the north-west side of the Old Town. The whole walk takes about 20 minutes.
- If your ship is at Akandia port, south of the Old Town, walk north into the Old Town and on to the d'Amboise Gate: about 35 minutes.
- Taxis wait at a stand at the port and take about 10 minutes, which helps if you arrive at Akandia or find cobbles hard going.

Tips for Rhodes when time is short
- The hunt ends at the Marine Gate on the harbour side, so the last leg brings you back close to the ship.
- Old Town streets are uneven cobblestones, so wear comfortable shoes; the Street of the Knights climbs gently towards the Palace.
- It can be very hot in summer and the Old Town has little shade: carry water, a hat and sunscreen.
- The Old Town gets crowded in summer, especially when several ships are in port; up to five cruise ships can call on one day.
- Check whether your ship is at the main cruise quay or at Akandia, which adds about 20 minutes' walking each way.
Why a self-guided game works on a port day
- You start when you step off the ship, not at a fixed tour time, and nobody waits for a group.
- Everyone in your party can follow on their own phone with one booking reference.
- You can stop for lunch or a swim and carry on later, and end the game whenever you need to head back.
- Google Maps guides you from stop to stop, and the game needs no entry tickets.
Rhodes cruise stop: questions
Can you walk from the Rhodes cruise port to the Old Town?
Yes. Ships berth at a quay right next to the Old Town walls, and the nearest gates are about 5-10 minutes on foot.
Do cruise ships tender in Rhodes?
Normally no: ships dock at the deep-water quay beside the Old Town, so you walk straight off.
Where is the d'Amboise Gate?
On the north-west side of the Old Town walls, just below the Palace of the Grand Master, about 20 minutes' walk through the Old Town from the cruise quay.
Is Akandia port far from the Old Town?
About 20 minutes on foot. Most cruise ships use the main cruise quay at Kolona, which is closer.
Which sights does the hunt pass?
Among others the Palace of the Grand Master, Ippoton Street, Hippocrates Square, the Suleiman Mosque and the Medieval Clock Tower, before it ends at the Marine Gate. No entry tickets are needed: the stops are seen from outside.
Do I need to book a time slot?
No. You book online, receive your booking reference by email straight away and start whenever you are ashore. The ticket has no time limit, so it still works if your ship arrives late or your plans change.
What do we need on the day?
A charged smartphone with mobile data, the World City Trail app from the App Store or Google Play, and your booking reference. A power bank helps on a long port day.
