Yes, easily. River-cruise boats moor at the Reichsbrücke in the 2nd district; a few use Nussdorf further north. From the Reichsbrücke, U-Bahn line U1 from Vorgartenstraße or Donauinsel runs to Stephansplatz, and the University of Vienna, where our scavenger hunt starts, is about 15 minutes' walk on: about half an hour in all, or about 15 minutes by taxi. The hunt takes about 3 hours through the flat inner city, with U1 close to the finish.

Price range: 4.99 € through 19.99 €From the Reichsbrücke mooring to the University of Vienna
- Leave the boat at the Reichsbrücke mooring and walk to the U-Bahn: Vorgartenstraße and Donauinsel stations on line U1 are both right by the bridge. Ask the crew which way to walk from your berth before you set off.
- Ride U1 via Praterstern and Schwedenplatz to Stephansplatz, beside St. Stephen's Cathedral (Stephansdom).
- From Stephansplatz, walk about 15 minutes to the main building of the University of Vienna on the Ringstraße, next to Schottentor station. The app's Google Maps navigation shows you the way.
- Prefer a taxi? From the mooring to the University of Vienna (Universitätsring) takes about 15 minutes. If your boat is moored at Nussdorf, ask the crew how best to get into town from there.

Tips for Vienna when time is short
- The Reichsbrücke mooring is outside the historic centre, so plan on the U-Bahn or a taxi; it is not a short stroll.
- Schottentor (Schottentor-Universität), next to the university, is a major hub with U2 and trams D, 1 and 71, and an underground passage lets you cross the Ringstraße.
- You can choose where to start and change the order of the stops in the app, so you could begin at St. Stephen's Cathedral as you come out of Stephansplatz.
- The finish in the Stadtpark is close to U4 Stadtpark and a short walk from U1 Stephansplatz for the ride back to the Reichsbrücke.
- The route is long, about 5 km of walking, but the inner city is flat; wear comfortable shoes.
- No entry tickets are needed: you see the Hofburg, the Opera and the other stops from outside, so you do not lose time in queues.
Why a self-guided game works on a port day
- You start when you step off the ship, not at a fixed tour time, and nobody waits for a group.
- Everyone in your party can follow on their own phone with one booking reference.
- You can stop for lunch or a swim and carry on later, and end the game whenever you need to head back.
- Google Maps guides you from stop to stop, and the game needs no entry tickets.
Vienna river-cruise stop: questions
Where do river-cruise boats dock in Vienna?
The main mooring is at the Reichsbrücke in the 2nd district; some boats use the Nussdorf mooring in the 19th district.
How do I get from the Reichsbrücke to the centre?
Take U-Bahn line U1 from Vorgartenstraße or Donauinsel; it runs via Praterstern and Schwedenplatz to Stephansplatz in the middle of the old town.
Which station is next to the University of Vienna?
Schottentor (also called Schottentor-Universität) on U2, served too by Ring trams D, 1 and 71. The hunt starts right beside it, at the university's main building.
Can I play the hunt on my own during a Vienna river cruise?
Yes. The start is about half an hour from the main mooring, the 3-hour route stays in the flat inner city, and U1 near the finish gets you back quickly.
Do I need to book a time slot?
No. You book online, receive your booking reference by email straight away and start whenever you are ashore. The ticket has no time limit, so it still works if your ship arrives late or your plans change.
What do we need on the day?
A charged smartphone with mobile data, the World City Trail app from the App Store or Google Play, and your booking reference. A power bank helps on a long port day.
Port and transport details checked in November 2026. Docking positions and timetables change, so always check your ship’s all-aboard time and your cruise line’s port information before you set off.
