The route: from Place Garibaldi to Jardin Albert 1er

The Nice scavenger hunt starts on Place Garibaldi and enters the old town at the Tour Saint-François. In Vieux Nice you visit the Chapelle de la Visitation, Sainte-Réparate Cathedral and the Cours Saleya, pass the Opéra de Nice, then follow the Promenade du Paillon to the Fountain of the Sun and the Centenary Monument, finishing in the Jardin Albert 1er near the sea.

The route covers about 2.6 km, roughly 35 minutes of walking. You can start anywhere or change the order in the app, with Google Maps guiding you. No entry tickets are needed: every riddle uses the outside of the buildings.

Why explore Nice with a city game

Nice belonged to the House of Savoy until 1860, and you can still see it in the Italian-style ochre façades of Vieux Nice and in Place Garibaldi, named after the hero of Italian unification who was born in the city. The Cours Saleya is known for its flower market, the Promenade du Paillon runs over a covered river, and the Fountain of the Sun’s Apollo looks over Place Masséna.

A game makes you notice doorways, statues and façades you would otherwise miss, and the stories explain what you just saw. Everyone plays on their own phone, there is no schedule, and you can stop for a slice of socca whenever you like.

  • Start in the morning to see the Cours Saleya market, or in the late afternoon when the old town lanes cool down.
  • Start the escape game in daylight; its puzzles rely on details of the façades.
  • Bring a charged phone, a power bank, water and comfortable shoes; the old town lanes are narrow and paved.
  • After the finish, walk on to the Promenade des Anglais or climb Castle Hill for the view over the bay.
