Yes, Ibiza town is easy to see on your own on a cruise stop. Most large ships dock at Es Botafoc, across the bay about 3 km from the old town; some smaller ships berth inside the harbour. The City Boat crosses in a few minutes, the Port Bus takes about 10-15 minutes and the walk about 35-40 minutes. Then climb through the Portal de ses Taules to the cathedral and castle of Dalt Vila. Our city guides help you plan the day.
From the cruise port to Dalt Vila
- Most ships tie up at Es Botafoc, the breakwater dock across the bay from the old town. There is no full terminal building, just a shelter on the quay where the boat, buses and taxis leave.
- The quickest way across is the City Boat, the Port Authority's harbour shuttle to Es Martell quay in the town harbour. The crossing takes a few minutes; it runs in season, so check on the quay on the day.
- Alternatively take the Port Bus, run by Sagalés for the Port Authority, to the town harbour (about 10-15 minutes), your cruise line's shuttle to the marina below the walls, or a taxi from the rank (about 10 minutes).
- Prefer to walk? Follow the waterfront road round the bay past Marina Botafoch into La Marina. It takes about 35-40 minutes, mostly flat but with little shade.
- From La Marina walk up to the Portal de ses Taules, the main gate of Dalt Vila. If your ship berths at the Levante quay inside the harbour, you can walk to the gate straight from the ship.

Tips for Ibiza when time is short
- Wear good shoes: Dalt Vila is steep, with cobbled, uneven streets and ramps up to the cathedral and the castle.
- In summer skip the walk from Botafoc, which is long and exposed to the sun, and take the City Boat or the Port Bus.
- When two or three ships are in at once, the wait for buses and taxis at Botafoc can be long and hot. Go ashore early or use the boat.
- Leave a margin for the return queue at the boat or bus stop when heading back to Botafoc.
- Load our city guides before you go ashore: they work offline, so the next stop and a tip for it are on your phone even without signal.
Why take our city guides ashore
- They work offline, so you don’t need mobile data or roaming in port.
- Six guides in one: where to eat, what to see, what to do with kids, going out, day trips and saving money.
- A short list of places worth your limited time, with a tip for each one.
- Buy before you sail and open them on your phone as soon as you step ashore.
Ibiza cruise stop: questions
Where do cruise ships dock in Ibiza?
Most large ships berth at the Es Botafoc dock across the bay, about 3 km from the old town. Some smaller ships use the quays inside the main harbour, right below Dalt Vila.
Can I walk from the Ibiza cruise port to the old town?
Yes. From Botafoc it is about 3 km along the waterfront, roughly 35-40 minutes on foot. The route is flat but has little shade, so in summer the boat or bus is more pleasant.
Is there a boat from the cruise dock to Ibiza town?
Yes. The Port Authority's City Boat links the Botafoc docks with Es Martell quay in the town harbour in a few minutes. It runs in season.
Is Dalt Vila hilly?
Yes. The walled old town climbs steeply on cobbled streets to the cathedral and the castle at the top, so take your time and wear good shoes.
Do the city guides work without mobile data?
Yes. Once opened on your phone they also work offline, which helps in ports where roaming is expensive.
Can I buy just one guide?
Yes. You can choose a single guide, such as the food guide, or all six guides for the city.
Port and transport details checked in November 2026. Docking positions and timetables change, so always check your ship’s all-aboard time and your cruise line’s port information before you set off.
